What Time is It? Daylight Savings Time US & NZ
I was sitting at my desk this morning, looking at my calendar, attempting to schedule some phone calls with friends/colleagues in the US next week and I saw thatDaylight Savings Time (DST) is starting tonight in the US. Huh? I always thought DST in the US occurred in April. Well, a little google search revealed that this used to be the case, but starting this year, DST has been moved up by a good three weeks as an ‘energy-savings experiment’ by the government.
Just when we all had it down that the time difference between the U.S. PST and New Zealand was 3 hours and arranging for Skype calls was relatively easy.
The dates for NZ & US DST is as follows:
US: March 11 (spring forward) November 4 (fall back)
NZ: March 18 (fall back) October 7 (spring forward)This means that:
From March 11 – March 17, the time difference between US PST and NZ is 4 hours;
From March 18 – Oct 6, the time difference between US PST and NZ is 5 hours;
From Oct 7 – Nov 3, the time difference between US PST and NZ is 4 hours; and
From Nov 4 -March 10, the time difference between US PST and NZ is 3 hours.
Got it?
Yes, this can be a bit confusing. So if you need to know what time it is in Christchurch, New Zealand, just check here. And here for San Francisco.
